Paramore, Evanescence Face Off In Musical March Madness' Elite Eight

Coheed and Cambria renew their MMM rivalry with Tokio Hotel, and Green Day look to defend their title. Voting is now under way!

Well, here we go. It's Elite Eight time in MTV's Musical March Madness, and it's not exactly hyperbole to call it the greatest round of eight in tournament history.

Why? Well, after voting in the Sweet 16 closed Tuesday at midnight, we bid farewell to both MMM favorites (30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park — you will be missed) and proverbial flies in the ointment (Semi Precious Weapons, F---ed Up, we're sad to see you go), leaving us with only the biggest and baddest bands in the land. And now, finally, they're facing each other, with a spot in the Final Four on the line.

Voting in all Elite Eight matchups is now underway, and polls close at midnight ET Thursday. Here's a look at each regional final, all of which promise to be totally epic — especially the Coheed/Tokio Hotel tilt, which might melt our servers. Let's get right to the action!

Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket!

Midwest

The mighty Midwest appropriately comes down to #5 My Chemical Romance versus #7 Metallica, a matchup that seemed all but preordained from the minute the brackets were revealed. MCR have proven themselves to be the most-consistent band in MMM history, and with a win here, they'll advance to their third-straight Final Four. All that's standing in their way is Metallica, a band that's battled every step of the way — they've been taken to the wire in practically every round, surviving tough challenges from Guns N' Roses, Sum 41 and Five Finger Death Punch — and now appears to believe that no one can stop them. MCR has yet to truly be challenged in MMM 2012, but we think that trend ends here. Will My Chem continue to roll, or will Metallica's dream run continue to the Final Four? We'll find out over the next 48 hours!

West

Returning MMM champs Green Day look to move one step closer to defending their crown, as they draw upset-minded "American Idol" fave Adam Lambert in the West final. After sleepwalking through much of their Sweet 16 matchup with another "Idol-ite" (James Durbin), Green Day turned it on late and advanced. Lambert, on the other hand, has shocked pretty much everyone (except for his Glamberts, of course), and sped through each round with relative ease — his throttling of MMM faves Panic! at the Disco in the round of 16 was particularly impressive.

Can he march on to the Final Four? Or will Green Day show the heart of a true champion and advance? This one might be closer than most folks think, and, truly, it wouldn't surprise us to see Lambert pull off the upset of upsets here. Your move, Green Day fans.

East

In the history of Musical March Madness, there are no two more storied bands than Tokio Hotel and Coheed and Cambria, who continue to dominate year after year. Shoot, Coheed even won the 2010 title, outlasting My Chemical Romance in a truly epic championship game. Of course, as any Tokio Hotel fan will tell you, Coheed only got to that championship game by knocking off TH in the most hotly contested (and, some might say, dubious) Final Four battle in tournament history. They've been waiting two years to get revenge, and, well, here's their chance. Twelfth-seeded Tokio takes on #10 Coheed in the East regional final, and only one band can advance to the Final Four. Vengeance. Acrimony.

Rampant accusations of cheating. This one's been in the works for 24 months now, and it's already living up to the hype (you should see our Twitter feed). We're just going to stand back and watch in awe. It's going to be a great show.

South

After so many upsets in the early rounds of the tournament, the South was the only region where things played out according to plan, meaning that the region comes down to #1 Evanescence versus #2 Paramore, a clash of two female-fronted bands with truly fanatic fanbases. Both survived tough challenges in the round of 16 (Ev outlasted Linkin Park, and Paramore pulled away from Linkin Park), and now, both know a trip to the Final Four is within reach. Paramore have been down this path before, and came oh so close to taking the title last year. Will 2012 be the year they finally take home the MMM championship? Top-seeded Evanescence stands in their way, and they've been getting stronger with each round. Sadly, only one of these bands will move on, while the other will be forced to spend an entire year wondering what might have been. To come this close and lose? Well, that's true heartbreak. Sure to be another tightly contested battle, this one will undoubtedly come right down to the wire (the polls are already super close), and should live up to all the advance billing.

MTV's 2012 Musical March Madness tournament reaches the Elite Eight! Voting runs until midnight ET on Thursday, March 29, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act is still alive, it'll be up to you to guide them to glory.

You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM or by downloading one of our custom badges — but get ready, it only gets more difficult from here on out.

Building momentum? Not just yet ? Commercial construction lags ...

Article date: Mar 28 2012

Phil Castle, The Business Times

Christine Sartoris sees signs of a slowly recovering economy in generally improving conditions in Colorado, rising sales tax collections in the Grand Valley and even growing interest in membership in the regional trade group she oversees.

Signs of recovery are far less evident, however, for the commercial construction industry in the area, says Sartoris, president and chief executive officer of the Western Colorado Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. ?The commercial construction industry hasn?t felt it yet. We?re going to lag behind and we?re slow to catch up.?

It?s an assessment others in the industry share.

?It?s still pretty flat,? says Clark Atkinson, executive vice president of Shaw Construction.

Dan Roberts, chief financial officer of Mays Concrete, puts it this way: ?We?re still in the hunker down and make it work mode.?

With few large construction projects planned and margins on existing projects razor thin, commercial construction contractors face challenging times. While there?s been a modest increase in demand for construction workers, the unemployment rate in the sector remains as much as double that of overall joblessness in Mesa County. Energy development bolsters construction, but exploration and production activity in the region has flagged with low natural gas prices and a shift in resources to oil-rich formations in other areas of the state and country.

Some construction firms have adapted by expanding their areas of operations or scope of services. But it could another 18 to 24 months before the sector substantially recovers in Western Colorado.

Still, hopes persist the sector ultimately will recover. In fact, Atkinson believes there could be a shortage of skilled construction workers in the region once growth resumes.

For now, though, difficult conditions persist, says Sartoris. ?It?s still pretty rough out there.?

Stiff competition for contracts has kept bids low and margins at or near the break-even point. ?It?s difficult to make a buck right now,? says Roberts.

Atkinson says prices for some construction work have declined to levels of 15 years ago ?? great for customers, but less so for contractors.

Dale Beede, broker and partner at Coldwell Commercial Prime Properties in Grand Junction, says most of the major commercial construction projects under way in the Grand Valley have been completed or soon will be. An American Furniture Warehouse opened late last year. A new press box and other renovations at Suplizio Field soon will be completed, Beede says.

Work continues on a municipal public safety building as well as a Sunflower Farmers Market grocery store. An existing building at Mesa Mall also will be renovated for a new Buffalo Wild Wings location scheduled to soon open, Beede says.

Colorado Mesa University long has been an exception to the rule of declining construction activity in contracting for hundreds of millions of dollars worth of work at its expanding campus in Grand Junction. Atkinson calls the university a ?shining star.? A new residence hall is scheduled to open this fall and offer 180 additional beds to students. CMU trustees have approved the construction of yet another residence hall to keep pace with growing demand for student housing.

No other major construction projects are in the pipeline, though, Beede says.

While commercial vacancy rates remain low, many existing buildings are underutilized, Beede says. Moreover, many businesses are more interested in survival than expansion. Those businesses that are faring better are shedding debt to gain more competitive positions, he adds.

?Roberts says he doesn?t foresee any substantial increase in commercial construction activity in Grand Valley this year or next.

With a lack of activity locally, some companies are looking elsewhere for work.

Roberts says Mays Construction has expanded its operation to a four-state area that includes not only Colorado, but also Arizona, Montana and New Mexico.

Atkinson says construction activity actually has been brisk in the Denver metropolitan area. ?Denver is just going gangbusters.? Demand also has rebounded for high-end luxury homes in mountain resorts, he says. In addition to Grand Junction, Shaw Construction operates offices in Denver and Jackson Hole, Wyo.

Since the commercial construction sector typically lags behind economic recovery, Sartoris says it could be another 18 to 24 months before the industry realizes substantial improvement ? or the increased payrolls that go with it.

Suzie Miller, business services manager at the Mesa County Workforce Center in Grand Junction, says there?s been a modest increase in demand for workers in the construction sector over the last two months. Still, most of the openings have been for low-paying positions rather than skilled positions that offer higher wages.

Job orders for more than 630 openings in the construction sector were posted at the center between March 1, 2011 and March 1, 2012, Miller says. But at the same time, more than 3,600 applicants registered at the center are interested in those jobs ? a labor pool only slightly less deep than that for applicants interested in office and administrative positions.

Sartoris estimates the unemployment rate in the construction sector at about double overall joblessness in Mesa County, which spiked at 9.6 percent in January, the latest month for which numbers are available.

Energy exploration and development has direct and indirect effects on commercial construction and in the past has bolstered construction. While energy activity has rebounded from a severe downturn, it?s flagged as natural gas prices have remained low and? high oil prices have drawn attention to oil-rich formations.

Those in the construction industry say a broader economic recovery with sustained job growth ultimately is needed to promote commercial construction in Western Colorado. Easier access to financing to fund construction also would help, as would government policies that create a more stable business environment.

Sartoris, for one, remains optimistic a recovery is coming. ?It?s just going to be a matter of time.?

Artists Biographies in Film: Top Films about Visual Artists | Cash ...

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012 at 12:57 pm ?

Visual artists biographies may be a popular theme within the movie world. Moviemakers have been fascinated by visual musicians and artists biographies, especially if it includes suffer from insanity, drug addiction or perhaps social conventions. Additionally, it gives them the chance to depict original or perhaps resurrected artworks within the big screen.
Here you can read about some of the most appealing movies about graphic artists biographies.
Lust for Life directed by Vincente Minnelli in 1952

Vincent Suv Gogh biography had attained several cinematic variations. Lust for Life with Kirk Douglas as being the struggling artist is among the most most notable. The movie draws on a best selling guide by Irving Stone, exactly who also authored A Agony and the Fervor about Michelangelo, which also possessed appeared on the big screen.

If you are a fan with Van Gogh artwork, you?ll enjoy watching Continue treadmill reviews Life, which features practically 200 of Suv Goghs original paintings. Having said that, if you are familiar with Kirk Douglas preceding filmographic, seeing him as the tortured Dutch painter could take a little adjustment. Yet another recommended film regarding Van Gogh is John Altmans Vincent and Theo from 1990.

Living through Picasso directed by John Ivory in The early nineties

Like Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso impression made him a legendary figure outside the aesthetic circles. While Suv Gogh symbolizes the personal destructive, manic depressive artist exactly who achieves success just after his passing, Picasso represents the misanthropic in addition to womanizer artist. Picasso infamous association with women is the focus of this Merchant in addition to Ivory film. The story plot is told on the eyes of Picasso mistress Francoise Gilot and features only reproductions with Picasso works. With Anthony Hopkins skill and his physical similarity to Picasso, Surviving Picasso seems to create an unattractive blackberry playbook review portrait of an specialit as a cruel, personal centered genius.

Lady with Pearl Earring directed by Peter Webber during 2003

Comparing so that you can Van Gogh and Picasso, Vermeers biography is less regarded and less controversial. As a result Girl with Globule Earring is much more restrained in addition to delicate. The movie is focused on a short period in Vermeers existence in which he was painting the face of his small low class cleaning service. Although Girl having Pearl Earring does not steer clear of filmic conventions by above dramatizing Vermeers painting process, the film is worth watching only if for its artistic style and design, which success during evoking Vermeers perception of light in addition to color.

Basquiat directed by way of Julian Schnabel in 1996

The most popular critique against motion pictures that deals with visual disciplines is the way they will depict the creation process. Therefore, there have been big expectations by Basquiat, which was directed with the celebrated painter Julian Schnabel. Schnabel did well in showing Jean Michelle Basquiat rise and fall tale in less the foreseeable manner we have seen hundreds of thousands time before. Having said that, the only reason to watch after Basquiat is David Bowie takes on the role with Andy Warhol.

Frida directed by way of Julie Taymor in 2000

Like most of the graphic artists who possessed their life tale appear on the big screen, Frida Kahlo carried an unusual biography, which includes bus crash, problematic marriage, and an graco pack n play affair with Leon Trotsky. Like Van Gogh, Picasso and Jackson Pollock, who was the subject of any biopic from 2000, Frida Kahlo was an icon long before Frida was already released, but the 123 minutes movie did help to durability her position as the feminist idol and probably the most famous person painter of the 30 century. Frida tries their best to integrate Frida Kahlo existence story with her portrait and the result is quite colorful and pleasing, but still does not remain far enough on the conventions of showing artists on movie.

Aspies and programming languages and doing CLI coding ...

Good advices indeed but the truth seems to be that

I am only good at getting people angry on how confused I am.

Not something to brag about or anything easy to make positive use of.

I guess some big company could have hired me to be the annoying
"fake" customer that test how service minded their employees are?

I saw a TV program about their "under cover" work. Pretending to be
real customers they went out to the different chain of stores or departments
and then acted as a "real" customers that where maybe a bit too difficult
just to test how it where taken care of.

Apart from such I seems to only be good at deceiving myself
to ahve talent for music or something. I had no talent for music at all.

But I did spend a lot of time trying to learn how to play and it failed.

I am over 65 years of age so I ahve some 45 years of being grown up?
I started to play music at 15 years and I still can not play music.
And that is despite music being one of my main interest.

But my body lied about it for many many decades and kept a hope
that one day I would be able to play.

So pardon me telling you this but you do come through to me as an optimist?

My English fails me but I am some kind of pessimist. Or some other word
that means something close to pessimism.

1. A tendency to stress the negative or unfavorable or to take the gloomiest possible view: "We have seen too much defeatism, too much pessimism, too much of a negative approach" (Margo Jones).
2. The doctrine or belief that this is the worst of all possible worlds and that all things ultimately tend toward evil.
3. The doctrine or belief that the evil in the world outweighs the good.

Maybe it is a too strong word. It claims too much.
The word pessimist is not enough pessimistic to live up
to what it means. The word pessimism are too optimistic
about it's ability to explain what the words refers to.

Maybe it where defined by a true optimist Smile

My pessimism is more like Murphy's law?
"If something can go wrong then it will happen at the worst possible time
with consequences that none would be able to foresee" Travesty but
you get it I trust
