Qualifications: Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree. Expertise in Molecular Genetics. Expertise with computer programming,
or mathematics, and bioinformatics. Knowledge of statistics and operating systems (Unix/Linux). Expertise with some standard molecular
genetic system (e.g., yeast, E. coli, flies, C. elegans, Arabidopsis, cultured cells) and standard techniques of molecular biology including
manipulation of DNA and RNA and PCR, or, alternatively, familiarity with quantitative approaches (e.g. statistics, computational or
mathematical approaches).
Preferred Qualifications: PhD or MD in Molecular Genetics. Experience with the yeasts S.
cerevisiae or S. pombe. Some practical knowledge of computer programming and statistics. Experience with some high-throughput technology and
in analysis of high-throughput data. Some practical knowledge of computer administration of a Unix/Linux-based server. Practical knowledge
of MYSQL/Oracle databases.
Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
- Use wet-lab, molecular genetic, high-throughput approaches (microarrays, sequencing, mass spec., etc.) to gather data about yeast cell cycle, meiosis, or other processes.
- Use computational approaches to analyze the same data.
- Manage the laboratory, and provide guidance to graduate students.
The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
