Realistic weight loss | ArticlePDQ.com

One of the problems so many dieters have, and why so many dieters fail is because of unrealistic expectations from their diet program. A lot of us that have some weight to lose only need to lose 20 or 30 pounds, I?m not talking about the 400 pound woman that you see on the talk shows crying about her weight problem. I?m sure that makes for great TV if you like that sort of thing, what I?m talking about the rest of us we just have a few pounds and that we need to shed. Having unrealistic weight loss goals is one of the fastest ways to make you quit and give up, if you?re serious about weight loss this should not be an option.

I want to lose 10 pounds in the next week, unless you?re on some kind of extreme diet plan like the HCG diet than losing 10 pounds in a week is a little unrealistic. Losing 2 pounds in a week however is a very realistic goal, and may be achieved without disrupting your daily routine too much. The first thing you should consider when trying to get rid of that excess baggage than carrying around is pick the correct time to do this. You don?t want to make any changes in your daily routine if you are at a stressful time in your life, this would not be a good time to start any kind of diet program because you are almost surely doomed to fail. Divorce, moving, new job, getting married, or major debt problem, if you have any of these things going on in your life forget trying to lose weight it?ll never happen. Deal with these issues first and your chances of achieving your weight loss goals will go through the roof.

Once you have dealt with any stress issues that are going on in your life then it?s time to get down to business. When starting a diet doesn?t mean you have to starve yourself as a matter of fact starving yourself is not going to help you lose weight quite the opposite, the only thing starving yourself will do is adversely affect your health and make you cheat on your diet usually with something that is not good for you to eat. Another mistake that some make is stepping on the scale every morning and expecting to see it go down, you cannot expect to see the pounds drop off on a day to day basis that will only cause you to get depressed and give up. Try instead keeping a journal of what you eat on a daily basis and approximately how many calories each food contains, also in your journal keep track if you have an exercise routine of how many calories you burn during your workouts also if you do a lot of walking get a podometer and keep track of how many calories you burn while walking. At the end of the day subtract the amount of calories burned from the amount of calories taken in and that should give you a real good idea of just why your a little overweight and what you can change in your life to correct the problem.

Your weight loss goals should always be realistic and achievable without causing a great deal of stress or disruption of your life. Just changing a few small things can have a big impact on where you want to be. 2 pounds a week does not sound like much but over a period of three or four months or more just imagine how much healthier and better you will look and it all starts with a few small changes here and there that before you know it will seem normal and will become part of your daily routine for the rest of your life.
