Baptism of Uzi secures grant | Surf Coast Times ? Bellarine Times ...

At a time when Victorian musician and triple Grammy winner Gotye has focused the eyes of the world on Victorian music, local group Baptism of Uzi from East Geelong has the chance to follow in his footsteps thanks to the Victorian Government?s Contemporary and Live Music Development program.

Member for Western Victoria David Koch congratulated Thomas Battersby and Baptism of Uzi on receiving a grant that will give support to developing the group?s career in the music business.

?This grant of $6,228 will be a great boost for heavy rock outfit Baptism of Uzi and will go a long way towards the production and promotion of their debut album,? he said.

Premier and Minister for the Arts Ted Baillieu said the Contemporary and Live Music Development program, through Arts Victoria, supported all genres of contemporary music and supported musicians at a range of different career stages.

?This program aims to support the creative growth and viability of the Victorian music industry, to help musicians find a voice and to be heard by audiences across the state, the country and the globe.

?Artists who have previously received support through the program include Paul Dempsey, Claire Bowditch and last week?s big winner Gotye, who received a music touring grant in 2008 to support a European tour to promote his second album.

?That tour helped him get in front of international audiences and it has been fantastic to see his career skyrocket since then.?

The next round of the Contemporary and Live Music Development program closes on Tuesday 12 March 2013. Funds are available in three categories: career building, music touring and sector development.
